VQ CarFinder on Sale for Only $4.99 – 20 Copies to Give Away!

VQ CarFinder is a GPS application that does just what the title implies, finds your car. There are 2 modes for this app, auto (if your car has built in bluetooth) and manual. If you have built in bluetooth you need only to start your car, VQ CarFinder will recognize the bluetooth signal and activate your device's GPS, tracking its location. Turning off your car will terminate the connection, storing your vehicle's location. To find your car, simply launch the app and select "Yes" when the application asks you to find car. A map then leads you straight to it. If you do not have built in bluetooth (a Bluetooth car charger is available for $24.99), you will need to use manual mode, which requires only one more step. When in manual mode simply select "Set Car Position" and give it a moment to mark your location. The application is great for shopping malls, sporting events, and those of you who are just a little forgetful. VQ CarFinder is compatible with all GPS capable BlackBerry's that run OS 4.5 and higher. Its available for download from the CrackBerry App Store for $4.99 (that's 50% off!) through December 31st, and is the only car locating app that automatically remembers where you park.

Contest: We have 20 free copies of VQ CarFinder to give away. Just leave a comment telling us a story about losing your car. Contest ends this Sunday at Midnight PST when we'll pick the best 20 stories. Please only leave one comment - multiple entries won't count.

ScanLife Barcode Reader Updated To Support More Formats

Having just recently downloaded this app a few days ago and testing it out, I was rather disappointed in the uses that were available for it. The odd barcode here and there would work but more were unreadable then readable. In turn, I deleted the app having thought I would never use it enough to actually rason keeping it around on my BlackBerry.

Yesterday, that changed. Having read over at BlackBerryCool that Scanlife was now updated with support for UPC/EAN codes I realized it suddenly just became more useful. Support in Scanlife now has QR, Datamatrix, EZcode and UPC/EAN meaning you can scan everyday products now and have the application produce results. At this time only auto focus devices can make use of the UPC codes, all others will maintain the same support as before.

Verizon Branded BlackBerry Tour2 9650 (essex) Poses for the Camera

Just yesterday we saw Sprint branded software running on a BlackBerry Tour 9650 (codenamed essex) and today we get a chance to see (thanks Sal!) actual branded hardware for a Verizon BlackBerry Tour2. I still get excited as these branded units start to pop up, as it means we're that much closer to a real release date. Still just rumors floating around on when this guy will show up officially, but hopefully it is still on track for early 2010. Sadly this is the only image that Sal has on hand, but hopefully some more will turn up in the coming weeks.

Kindle For BlackBerry Coming Soon

The news itself really isn't that new. As good friend of CrackBerry, Al Sacco mentions in his article the news of Kindle on BlackBerry is rather old now having first shown up on CrunchGear back in October. What is new however, is the fact Amazon has now updated their webpage to show that it is indeed "coming soon". Not exactly sure when that means it will be released but we know it's closer now then it was back in October. As Al points out, there is other apps out there such as eReader and MobiPocket but the Kindle services are more widely used then those offerings and they do not support the Kindle format. Will be exciting to see how Kindle on BlackBerry will be, as we know it has really taken off on the iPhone platform.

Nationwide BIS Outage Reported for Most Carriers

The tip line is going to explode - it looks like BIS email is down for most carriers across the US and parts of Canada. No one is receiving email, but it appears that browser, BlackBerry Messenger, voice and SMS are still working however. No reports of exatcly when things went down or when they'll be up and running. Keep it here and we'll report anything as it pops up. Jump into the forums for more discussion.

Verizon Users Only Showing Bing As Their Search Engine Choice?!?

Some strange happenings on the Verizon front at the moment. The CrackBerry tips box is getting full of users who seem to be having their search engine options stripped from their web browsers, leaving Bing as the only choice for search engines to use. The CrackBerry forums and even the official Verizon forums all show signs of this happening, seemingly for no reason at this time. So, do you have all the regular options? Or is Bing the only choice you have on your device browser? Let us know if the comments.
