BlackBerry Curve 8520 Gets FCC Approved

BlackBerry Curve 8520 Approved by FCC

With all the BlackBerry Tour mania on CrackBerry this week, it's almost easy to forget about the next new device lined up to hit the market in the weeks/months ahead, the BlackBerry Curve 8520 (aka Gemini). The 8520 has been in full-production for weeks already and with FCC approval now behind it it's now just a matter of when. With time we should see the Curve 85xx series roll out to many carriers (1 of the 3 devices in the photo above is actually a CDMA-friendly Curve 8530… can you guess which one?!) but it's looking like T-Mobile will get the honor in the USA of pushing this optical trackpad equipped, rubbercoated Curve first. Anybody out there planning to pick this one up when it hits??

New Application WiFi Disabler: Turn Off WiFi Radio When Your Router Is Out Of Range

WiFi Disabler WiFi Disabler

I just got word of a cool new app called WiFi Disabler. The premise is simple – when a WiFi connection to your router is lost, WiFi Disabler will turn off WiFi radio on your device to help save battery life. You can set a specified time-out to give your device a chance to reconnect, and after the allotted time WiFi radio will shut off and alert you. If you are a power user and leave WiFi on when you leave the house or office, this may come in handy. However I suppose the big drawback for most will be that the application only disables WiFi, and it doesn't appear to turn on again when a valid network is found. WiFi Disabler works with and WiFi enabled device running OS 4.5+.  You can grab it for $3.95 from ShopCrackBerry.com.

PatternLock Lite Now Available Free For Storm Users

PatternLock Lite

PatternLock for the BlackBerry Storm has been one of our best selling apps since it's release a few months back. Tafasa has taken notice and released PatternLock Lite. The lite version is available free and works in the same manner, but only contains the bare bones application features.  PatternLock Lite gives Storm users a 3×3 grid of dots which are connected in a specific pattern to unlock the device. The full verison gives users the option of custom wallpaper, password protection, location based locking and more. I'm glad Tafasa has gone this route and has both a premium and free version of the app and can only hope more developers follow in their footsteps.  In conjunction with the release, Tafasa is offering $1.00 off the full version of PatternLock. Head over to CrackBerryAppStore.com (or use our mobile client) from your device, and enter the coupon code patternlock1off to purchase PatternLock for only $1.99.  This coupon code will only work from your device at CrackBerryAppStore.com.

Verizon Pushing Out VCAST Song ID And VZW Tones to BlackBerry Storm Users

V CAST Song ID

It looks as if Verizon has pushed out both VCAST Song ID and VZW Tones for BlackBerry Storm users. V CAST Song ID works in much the same manner as Shazam, letting you identify songs playing on a stereo, jukebox etc. directly from your handset and instanly providing you with a one-click purchase link. VZW Tones easily lets you locate and download the latest "real music" ringtones directly to your device. If you haven't seen them yet, you just need to reboot or send your service books and they should pop up.  Thanks to everyone that sent this in!

BlackBerry Tour to Be Offered in Two Versions – With Camera and WITHOUT Camera

BlackBerry Tour Without Camera

While the crack team was sleeping, Benjamin sent us in a tip at 4am that Verizon's website is now showing the BlackBerry Tour available for pre-order in two versions – both with camera and WITHOUT CAMERA. You can click on the image above to jump over to Verizon's site and spin the Tour around to see it's camera-less behind. Try zip code 07828 if you're in need. Very cool for RIM to cater to those individuals who need a device sans camera for work. It's a bit of a shame though as the Tour's camera does take some seriously awesome photos (like alarmingly good).

Verizon BlackBerry Tour Site Gets Updated: July 12th Release Official; Tour Pre-Ordering Available

Verizon BlackBerry Tour 9630 Site Updated...

Some late night activity just sprung up in the CrackBerry forums on word that Verizon's BlackBerry Tour site has been updated, which confirms the previously rumored July 12th in-store availability date and also allows for pre-ordering of the device. At the time of this post the new site seems to still be propagating through (the site isn't showing up properly for everyone just yet and the preordering isn't quite working – it should be good to go soon), but you will want to jump over and take a look (click here if the main link below isn't working for you).

The updated site also features a short Bloggers on the Tour video which features a couple of CrackBerry.com quotes about the BlackBerry Tour….. SWEET! The BlackBerry Tour definitely is the smartphone sooo many CDMA users have been waiting for. The release of the BlackBerry Tour is so close now. I guess it's about time we get ready for a CrackBerry contest huh? Stay tuned!!! If you're excited for the Tour, say CrackBerry!

BlackBerry Tour Hits And Passes FCC Testing?!?

BlackBerry Tour Hits And Passes FCC Testing?!?

With all the carrier release dates pretty much confirmed officially or even unofficially the BlackBerry Tour is indeed going to be reaching the hands of consumers middle of next month, but as all devices must, the Tour has to pass FCC regulations and testing.

Now while there is no Tour stamping on the documentation the FCC has posted what looks like the Tour with all the SARS testing reports and of course the confidentiality letters that all must be submitted to the FCC before a device gets approved. In any event, the new BlackBerry Tour is coming to quite a few carriers next month and I know a lot of you are waiting not so patiently.
